I am a published poet, essayist, and novelist, and a recipient of a 2005 Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission. Courtesy of the grant, I began working on a collection of essays, poetry, and photography for a book tentatively titled Not An Other, which focuses on my experiences as a biracial woman.
I have been a featured reader at several venues, including the Café Li’Ture Reading Series, the Women and the Arts Festival, the National Women’s Music Festival, the Poetry Alliance of Indiana Reading Series, the Indiana University - Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) International Women’s Day Open Mic Series, and the National Women’s Music Festival Spotlight Stage. I have also been featured at a monthly reading/open mic series at Out Word Bound Bookstore and as an opening act on two occasions for the IndyIndie independent music house concert series. My writing has appeared in several publications. The first nonfiction essay I wrote, "Ghost Victories," was published in the premiere issue of the University of Pittsburgh's literary magazine, nidus, in 2001.
I served as an Associate Editor and the Senior Editor of genesis, the literary and art magazine of IUPUI, from 2000-2002. I helped produce five issues of the magazine, all well-received by IUPUI faculty, staff and students. A couple years later, the new editorial staff rejected my writing. See also: Kick in the head.
